Kloz Family
Violin maker
–
Matthias Kloz I and his descendants represent a continuous lineage from the 17th-century origins of the Mittenwald school to the 20th century. Georg I, Sebastian I, Aegidius Sebastian, and Johann Karl are important makers in that branch of the family, but many of their descendants also made instruments in the family tradition. In many cases these works can be attributed to a specific maker, but in some instances previous experts have attributed instruments to an unidentified member of the family.
Historical record suggests that other makers with the Kloz surname who made important contributions to the Mittenwald school, such as Georg Karl may not be descendants of Matthias Kloz I.
