Alberto Luigi Blanchi

Alberto Luigi Blanchi (1871–1948) was a violin maker active in Nice and a member of an established family of luthiers. He was the son and pupil of Augustin Blanchi and succeeded to his father’s workshop in 1899. His work earned international recognition, including gold medals at exhibitions in Milan in 1906 and London in 1908.

A prolific maker, Blanchi produced approximately 500 violins ...Read More and 60 cellos, as well as violas, double basses, guitars and mandolins. He worked principally on personal models, though surviving instruments also include carefully made copies of classical Italian makers. His instruments are distinguished by precise workmanship, a high level of finish and typically golden-orange varnish.

Blanchi commonly used Latinized labels identifying himself as the son of Augustin and his place of work as Nice, and frequently branded his instruments “A.
