Francesco Stradivari
Violin maker
(1671 – 1743)
Son of renowned Cremonese master Antonio Stradivari, Francesco Stradivari probably assisted his father in the family workshop starting in the 1690s alongside his brother Omobono, who specialized in the business side of the operation. He survived his father by only six years, during which time he was not particularly productive, but several printed labels from 1742 indicate that he did continue to make violins. While the skills of Stradivari's sons were by no means a match for those of the undisputed champion of Italian violin making, their work is valued highly for its proximity in tradition to the great Antonio.
