Joseph Dominique Lété apprenticed to Moitessier. He worked for Gand in Paris and with J. B. Vuillaume from 1825 to 1828. He later established himself independently in Nantes. His work featured a slightly heavy style reminiscent of Gand and Vuillaume. He used classical models with fine materials and applied hard red or golden brown varnish, which was sometimes shaded and aged.
