Hilaire Darche was the son of Joseph Darche and trained at Gaillard and Nicolas Ainé in Mirecourt. He later worked for N. F. Vuillaume in Brussels before opening his own shop at 62 Boulevard de Waterloo in 1886, joined by his brother, a piano maker, in 1894.
