Hilaire Darche
Violin maker
(1862 – 1929)
Hilaire Darche was the son of Joseph Darche and trained at Gaillard and Nicolas Ainé in Mirecourt. He later worked for N. F. Vuillaume in Brussels before opening his own shop at 62 Boulevard de Waterloo in 1886, joined by his brother, a piano maker, in 1894. He created antique style copies of classical Cremonese makers and was renowned as an expert dealer and connoisseur. He received the decoration of 'Chevalier of the Order of King Leopold' and was appointed as a maker to the Brussels Conservatoire.
