Samuel Jansen Miller
(b. 1867)
Samuel Jansen Miller established himself professionally in Dryden from 1884. He was self-taught by reading Heron Allen's Violin Making as it was and is. He made approximately 200 instruments modeled after Stradivari's `Alard' and `Messie' violins, as well as Guarneri models. His workmanship varied. The varnish ranged from orange to deep red-brown, using local and recovered woods. He inscribed internally: `Jansen Miller. M. E. H. T. 1927'.
