Born near Manchester, Walter Mayson was an and prolific eccentric maker who seems to have been self-taught. After a decade or ...Read More so in the rural Lake District, where he continued to make violins, Mayson returned to Manchester and was able to sustain some business there before deciding to set up a shop in London at the age of 64. The branch soon failed, but nevertheless Mayson continued his prodigious output of instruments, making over 800 in his lifetime.
