Auguste Delivet
Violin maker
(1861 – 1928)
Auguste Delivet served an apprenticeship in Mirecourt. He was the nephew and pupil of Victor Rambaux. From 1887, he worked for H. C. Silvestre in Paris before opening his own shop at ado rue de Paris in 1892. Shortly after, he moved to 49 rue Richer. In 1918, he emigrated to Canada, initially working for Williams in Toronto and later operating independently in Montreal. Instruments were made for Williams in three grades: the least expensive was produced under the direction of A. Delivet, while the highest quality bore his brand on the lower rib: 'A. Delivet'. He received gold medals at Nantes in 1904, Liège in 1905 and 1906, and at other locations. His work exemplified fine craftsmanship typical of the French style during this period.
