Ignaz Anton Lutz
Violin maker
(1882 – 1927)
Ignaz Anton Lutz was the son and pupil of Ignaz Lutz (I). Later, he worked for various workshops in Vienna, Berlin, Paris, and London before emigrating to the USA. He earned a high reputation as a repairer and restorer. He owned the 1724 Stradivari 'Erlich' violin, which he used as a model for his own work. His varnish was a red-brown color of his own formulation, sometimes featuring a shaded 'antique' finish.
