Antonio Gibertini
Violin maker
(1797 – after 1866)
Antonio Gibertini was active in Parma from 1820 to 1833 and in Genoa from 1834 to 1845, returning to Parma in 1845. He was known as a skilled repairer and worked for Paganini on occasion. He received several medals in Milan and other cities for his reputed restoration of the lost art of Cremona. A pamphlet written by Carlo Pancaldi was published in Palermo in 1845 about him. His workmanship included personalized Stradivari models and some Guarneri patterns, using red-brown oil varnish applied over a yellow spirit ground. He restored and corrected in the year 1839 in Genoa.
