Franz Kinberg

Franz Kinberg was a self-taught maker active from approximately 1933 to 1937. He studied under Lajos Kain in Zrenjanin from 1937 to 1939. He worked in Zagreb for Franz Schneider, in Budapest for Remenyi, and in Vienna for Hofman & Czerny. In 1949, he emigrated to America, where he worked for Kagan & Gaines in Chicago until 1982, when he retired and relocated to Florida. He received a gold medal at the Hague in 1949. He created copies of specific master instruments, including Stradivari and personal models until 1968, after which he made only Guarneri models. His fine workmanship included over 100 instruments, such as double basses, and he used commercial oil varnishes. He branded his instruments internally as 'F. Kinberg. '.
