Martin Leopold (Leopold II) Widhalm
Violin maker
(1747 – 1806)
Martin Leopold (Leopold II) Widhalm was the son, pupil, and successor of Leopold Widhalm and continued with his father's label. His work was generally less refined than that of his father, featuring higher arching and slightly uneven purfling. The scroll was markedly wide across the eyes. He retained the fine varnish, although some instruments appeared to have a thinner, harder recipe. Instruments were branded internally, with or without a double-headed eagle: 'LW'.
