Karl Adam Hörlein
Violin maker

Karl Adam Hörlein studied under Joseph Vauchel. He spent three years in Vienna with Anton Hoffmann and Gabriel Lembock. He established himself in Kitzingen, Bavaria in 1853 and moved to Würzburg in 1866. He served as a repairer for the Duke of Sachsen-Meiningen. His work included personal and Stradivari-derived models. He demonstrated fine craftsmanship using both oil and spirit varnish. He created the viola-alta based on the designs of Hermann Ritter. K. A.
