Gyula Várady
Violin maker
(1866 – 1929)
Gyula Várady trained as an artist painter. He was introduced to violin making in the workshop of G. Fiorini in Munich. He studied under Tiefenbrunner in Mittenwald. He was appointed the first principal of the Hungarian State Violin Making School, which was founded in 1922. The school closed following his death. His professional work was characterized by careful attention to Stradivari models. He used fine materials and glossy orange-red varnish.
