George Herbert Hicks worked for G. A. Chanot in Manchester in 1901. He established himself independently in Market Street, Oxford, from 1910. Instruments made before that were labelled by Chanot. He created 60 violins based on Stradivari models, showcasing fine and accurate work with varnish in several shades.
