Charles Hautstone
(1863 – 1929)
Charles Hautstone established himself in rue du Marché au Charbon, Brussels, in 1883. He subsequently moved to rue des Eperonniers in 1896, then to rue Lebeau in 1924, and finally to rue Jourdan. From 1899 to 1914, he was assisted by his cousin Jean Baptiste Hautstone, who handled most of the work that bore Charles' label during this time. He specialized in making viols, particularly copies of antique instruments.
