Louis Joseph Thomassin

Louis Joseph Thomassin (1856-after 1904) was the son of Nicolas Francois Joseph Thomassin, himself both a violin and bow maker, and probably trained not under his father directly but with Francois Bazin, correcting an old and persistent misattribution to Charles Nicolas Bazin found in earlier literature. In 1872 he was engaged by Francois Lupot II, for whom he worked until Lupot's death. His own first cousin, Claude Auguste Thomassin -- long wrongly described in print as his son rather than his cousin -- trained under him in turn.
