Wilhem Theodor Gutermann was a pupil of Engleder in Munich and worked for Tieffenbrunner, Stecher, Kiendl, and Hoffmann in Vienna from 1851 to 1866. In 1867, he established a successful workshop in Vienna, eventually employing several assistants. His workmanship was noted for its fine quality with clear red varnish.
