Giuseppe Stefanini
Violin maker
(1908 – 1992)
Giuseppe Stefanini started out working for Luigi Vistoli in Lugo, and after WWII worked for Nicola Utili and Pietro Borghi, who introduced him to the Bisiach family. Stefanini made numerous instruments for the Bisiachs, especially Giacomo and Leandro Jr., and moved to Brescia in 1957. In 1986 he relocated to Florence, where he remained until his death in 1992. His work is inspired by various classical makers, and shows great care and individuality in execution. Full archings with narrow channeling are common. Materials are often first-rate, and varnish is usually an attractive yellow-orange.
