Ettore Soffritti
Violin maker
(1877 – 1928)
Ettore Soffritti was born in Ferrara and is one of Italy's most revered makers of the early 20th century. On his earliest labels he indicated that he was a student of his father Luigi but given that the quality of Ettore's instruments is so much more advanced than that of his father it is widely accepted that he was influenced by other makers including Giuseppe Fiorini and Augusto Pollastri.

This led to significant recognition and by 1911 Soffritti had won several gold medals in national and international exhibitions in Brussels, Ferrara and Turin, and by 1923 also in Rome. To this day, Soffritti's important legacy is felt very strongly through the body of instruments he left, which are rare and particularly sought after, the makers that he trained, as well as other makers who emulated his models and continue to do so.
