Antonio Sgarbi (1866–1938) spent most of his career in Rome — first as a boy working the family bench alongside his father, Giuseppe, through the late 1870s and 1880s, then, once Giuseppe's own work slowed, carrying the workshop forward under a style so distinctly his own that his instruments are easy to pick out at a glance, still steeped in the sensibility of the century he was born into.
