Pietro Sgarabotto
Violin maker
(1903 – 1990)
Pietro Sgarabotto largely followed his father Gaetano's work in style and execution, though overall the results are heavier and less elegant, especially the carving of the scroll. Nonetheless his instruments show characteristic refinement. He often used Italian maple, like his father, and varnish ranges in color from a yellow-brown to a vivid red. Pietro taught alongside his father at the Violin making school in Parma from 1929 to 1936, and later he taught at the school in Cremona, from 1959 to 1973.
