Pierre Gerber
Violin maker

Pierre Gerber was a pupil of Richard Meinel. He later worked for Millant-Deroux in Paris. He established himself in Lausanne in 1934 and was appointed luthier to the Conservatoire in 1947. He gained an international reputation as a connoisseur and expert restorer. In 1949, he received a gold medal at the Hague. His instruments were excellent, featuring classical models along with some Gagliano copies, and they had a fine red-brown varnish.
