Georges Frédéric Schwartz
Bow maker / Violin maker
(1785 – 1850)
Georges Frédéric Schwartz was a bow maker and the son and pupil of Bernard Schwartz. He specialized in bow making from around 1810, creating pieces in the style of Tourte. His work featured particularly fine metalwork, with pernambuco sticks adorned with gold, silver, and tortoiseshell mountings. One side of the handle was branded SCHWARTZ, while the other side displayed STRASBOURG. After his death, his brother, Théophil, continued the workshop and used the brand on German and Mirecourt bows of lesser quality.
