William Ganshirt trained with Walter Goss, J. A. Young, and F. A. Mayer. He was employed by Oliver Ditson at the Musician's Supply Company. From 1926, he served as an assistant and pupil of O. H. Bryant in Boston. He made about 30 instruments based on Stradivari and Guarneri models, using a light red-brown varnish.
