Francisco Gand was likely from the Gand family of Mirecourt. Paramon noted that his work was "well made, with poor wood and undistinguished varnish. " Jacquot referenced a viola featuring a transparent yellow varnish, labelled: Echo por Franco Gand en Madrid, año 1788. Vannes provided a manuscript label.
