Christophe Schaeffer
Bow maker
(b. 1958)
Christophe Schaeffer graduated from the National School of Violin Making in Mirecourt in 1977, where he learnt bowmaking under Bernard Ouchard, alongside Jean-Pascal Nehr among others.
Immediately after graduating, he started to work with Philippe Dupuy, the grandson of Eugène Sartory, in Paris. The collaboration lasted for over 50 years and many bows "Dupuy à Paris" were made using Eugène Sartory's tools and stock of pernambuco, ivory, tortoiseshell and mother-of-pearl which he inherited.
He received a Gold Medal from the VSA for a cello bow in 1978.
