Johann Christian Ficker III
Violin maker
(1758 – 1822)
Johann Christian Ficker was the son of Johann Christian Ficker II and a notable maker within the Ficker school. He crafted high-arched Stainer models characterized by narrow edges and well-defined purfling, with Staineresque scrolls that featured an exaggerated last turn of the eye due to an extended cut into the boss. His varnish was a thin clear yellow, although some claimed his style leaned more towards Amatise, lacking the extended last turn of the scroll and showcasing a larger eye. In addition to his more refined instruments, he produced some cornerless violins and good flat-backed double basses. His work was branded internally with * I * C * F *.
