Robert Robinson
Violin maker

Robert Robinson was a violin and bow maker and a pupil of his father, R. C. Robinson. Active from 1867, he worked in Des Moines from 1871 to 1877, in Denver from 1882 to 1884, returned to Des Moines from 1885 to 1891, and spent time in Salt Lake City in 1891, Chicago in 1892, San Francisco in 1897, Boston in 1899, and finally in Portland, Oregon in 1902. His work included Stradivari, Guarneri, and personal models, with some featuring ornamented backs. He used spirit varnish in shades of dark red, orange-red, golden-brown, and yellow. Approximately 180 violins, 10 violas, and 10 cellos were completed.
