David Ewan was a violinist and composer in the traditional Scottish style. He was also a skilled and professional violin maker. He produced 100 violins and 20 cellos. His instruments featured a heavy Stradivarian form, with early work characterized by high arches. They had a thin yellow or brown varnish and were branded beneath the button.
