Mathias Neuner II
Violin maker
(1762 – 1832)
Mathias Neuner was the son of Johann Neuner and used the spelling 'Neiner' on early labels. A prolific maker, he exported his work throughout Europe and employed many craftsmen. The name continued to be used long after his death. His well-crafted work featured his own Stainer-derived model, which was quite high-arched and had opaque orange or red-brown varnish with a crackled texture. A characteristic extended tail led to the eye of the volute.
