Frederic François Xavier Carchereux patented a 'rational perfectioning of the violin, ' an invention designed to maintain the plates, neck, and resonant body in 'perfect equilibrium' under the tension of the strings. It featured two internal supports that ran straight from the neck to the bridge and from a block in that position to the lowest part of the back, along with an extended bass bar.
