Luigi Mozzani
Violin maker
(1869 – 1943)
Luigi Mozzani established a workshop for guitar making in Cento in 1910 and began making violins there as well from 1917. He followed a Guadagnini model for violins, violas, and cellos, using dark red varnish. However, none exhibited very great quality or integrity. His guitars, particularly the popular lyre-guitars of the period, demonstrated greater workmanship. He moved to Bologna in 1927. Several of his instruments are preserved at the Pieve di Centro School of Lutherie.
