Johann Baptist Bubenik
(1800 – 1836)
Johann Baptist Bubenik was a pupil and successor of Caspar Strnad in 1823. His output was small due to his early death. The model he used was derived from Stradivari, featuring well-rounded upper bouts and outward-pointing upper corners. He crafted a gracefully extended pegbox in the style of Gragnani, which was topped with a nicely concentric volute marked by a slender chamfer. His work exhibited excellent materials and clean workmanship. The varnish was generally a well-textured gold-red/brown, often displaying deep craquelure, although it was sometimes of thin spirit.
