Maurice Mermillot
Violin maker
(1835 – 1901)
Maurice Mermillot apprenticed to Gaillard in Mirecourt. He was employed by Buthod in Paris in 1852 and moved to Rennes in 1853. In 1861, he worked for N. Vuillaume in Mirecourt. While on military service in Turin from 1855 to 1860, he possibly became acquainted with A. Guadagnini (Vannes) and subsequently produced work for him. He returned to Paris to work for Gand & Bernardel and established himself independently on the rue Morel in 1876. Mermillot retired to Mirecourt in 1898. He was a fine craftsman in the French tradition, utilizing classical Italian models with excellent materials and varnish.
