Franciszek Borowiecki (-Borówka)


Violin maker
(1886 – 1962)

Born in Niwki, Franciszek Borówka-Borowiecki was initially a carpenter and sculptor before building his first violin in 1893. In 1901 he setup a workshop in Zawiercie, and in 1909 moved it to Częstochowa before settling in Lublin in 1910. He was one of the founders of the Association of Polish Artist Violin Makers in Poland, and took part in exhibitions in Częstochowa, Poznań, Kraków and Liège. ...Read More />
He built over 130 string instruments including 15 violas, 15 cellos and 2 double basses. He sometimes carved female heads in stead of the scroll. Printed labels after 1925 read: "Franciszek Borowiecki / wykonał w Lublinie / Roku Pańskiego 19... (made in Lublin / in the
year of our Lord 19...)"

His instruments were played by Henri Marteau, Bronisław Huberman, Jan Kubelik, Kazimierz
Wiłkomirski, and Izydor Lotto. Read Less
