Giuseppe Albani's own individual work has left no separate account in the sources checked, but his parentage is real and well documented: he was born in Rome in 1684, the third recorded son of Mattia Albani, a Tyrolean maker who had himself trained in Rome a generation earlier — apprenticed first to Martino Arz in 1664, then to Andrea Portoghesi in 1666, quite possibly pausing in Cremona long enough ...Read More to receive some instruction from Amati along the way — before returning home to Bolzano and, later, Linz, to build a career of his own. Giuseppe's two elder brothers, Johann Michael (born 1677, active in Graz) and another Joseph (born 1680, in Bolzano), stayed within the family's Tyrolean orbit; Giuseppe alone among the three was born, and presumably remained, in Rome.
