Émile Laurent apprenticed to Auguste Dane. He subsequently worked for Joseph Hel in Lille. He established himself independently in Brussels from 1900. A prolific maker, he created fine copies of classical models with golden- or red-brown varnish in appropriate shades, some featuring a crackled texture. He received a Diplôme d'honneur at the Exposition Universelle in Liège in 1905 and a Médaille d'Or at the Exposition Universelle in Bruxelles in 1905.
