Marc André Joseph Laberte
Bow maker / Violin maker
(1880 – 1963)
Marc André Joseph Laberte was the son of Pierre Alexis and served as the Director of Laberte-Humbert Frères, which merged with Fournier Magnié in 1920. He inherited the family firm and employed hundreds of makers, producing a wide range of instruments and bows from student to soloist level. Laberte developed his expertise from a personal collection of fine classical instruments and marketed fine copies featuring good transparent varnish, used in shaded and 'antiqued' finishes. He produced bows in collaboration with Somny, branded as MARC LABERT and LABERTE, as well as some violins himself. The business remained under the control of his son Philippe until 1968.
