Andreas Hansen Hjorth
Violin maker

Andreas Hansen Hjorth, originally a ship carpenter, was founder of the Hjorth violin making dynasty; he became violin maker to the Danish court in 1789.
He was possibly trained in the German Tyrolean tradition; instruments generally are of a small size. On his label he often writes ‘made according to the Amati rules’.
Father of Johannes Hjorth, who took over the family firm upon his death in 1834.
