Albert Edgar Phillips Hill was the stepson of Arthur Frederick Hill. He apprenticed in Mirecourt and worked for Fiorini in Munich for two or three years around 1904. He purchased the business of W. E. Hill & Sons from Alfred Ebsworth Hill. He adopted the Hill family name, which ensured the business's continuity after the Second World War. He was succeeded by his son Desmond D'Artrey Hill (b. 1916). One violin bore the label:.
