Christian Friedrich Glass
Violin maker
–
Christian Friedrich Glass was a violin and bow maker associated with the Hopf school. He created instruments with a rather square outline featuring outward pointing corners and purfling set very close to the edge. The arch was medium, and the soundholes were influenced by Stradivari. The scroll appeared somewhat crude. His varnish was a golden yellow. Some of his instruments were of lesser quality, exhibiting painted purfling and occasionally imitation figure painted onto the back beneath the varnish. He branded his work with `C. F. G. '.
