Albin Wilfer descended from a line of amateur luthiers. He studied under E. Weller in Markneukirchen. From 1897, he served as the head of the workshop of J. H. Zimmermann in Moscow. He established his own workshop independently in Dufourstrasse, Leipzig, starting in 1898. His work featured classical Italian models as well as his own unique designs. He used good varnish and materials, demonstrating professional workmanship. His brand was '*A*W*'.
