Oswald Möckel
Violin maker
(1843 – 1912)
Oswald Möckel studied under Carl Grimm and Christian Adam, later establishing his own shop in Berlin in 1869. He was known for his classical models, which featured distinctive personal developments and fine red oil varnish. Highly regarded as a repairer and restorer, he received a medal at the Brussels Exhibition and was awarded a medal of honour for his instruments at the 1896 Berlin exhibition. Möckel also crafted fine bows and trained his two sons to become accomplished makers.
