Louis Lyeki worked actively from 1906 for Johann Stowasser in Budapest before emigrating to the USA. He established himself in St. Louis and was later assisted by his son John. His fine workmanship included Stradivari, Guarneri, and Guadagnini models, utilizing golden-yellow to deep red spirit varnish. He also made several bows and claimed the ability to produce one violin per week, with more than 250 recorded. Many instruments made by unrelated makers had copies of his label inserted to capitalize on his success.
