Johann Michael Gotz

Johann Michael Gotz trained as a woodcarver. He was a prolific violin maker known for his medium high, flat-topped arches. His instruments featured a small volute with a large, Germanic tail to the eye. Generally, he used one-piece fronts and backs and applied a thin brown varnish. He operated as a Lauten- und Violinmacher in Neukirchen im Voigtlande.
