Hermann Ludwig Gemunder
Violin maker
(1859 – 1912)
Hermann is George Jr’s younger brother. Born 1859, died 1912. He and George Jr are responsible for everything made after George Sr’s stroke in 1889. Good makers, but in unfortunate circumstances. Hermann was the book keeper, and the family finances, after 11 years of George Sr being bedridden, were a disaster. Whole family collapsed after George Sr. died because they were so far in arrears on the house payments. It was immediately sold in a sheriff’s sale but for less than was owed. That was life in the pre-health insurance years.
