In October 1764, Egidius Michiels stepped into the post of violin maker to the Brussels court, taking over from Henri-Augustin Snoeck — a fitting successor, given that his own mother, Patronella Snoeck, had married into the same family of makers when she wed the elder Egidius Michiels.
