Francesco Grancino I
Violin maker
(fl. 1670 – 1680)
Francesco Grancino was the younger brother and assistant of Giovanni Grancino. His work is primarily recognized through instruments that feature the joint label of Francesco and Giovanni. Notably, these instruments often include fine contralto violas of excellent model, resembling those made by Andrea Guarneri. A small number of violins are attributed solely to him, showcasing fine Amati style. They exhibited a relatively large volute, with the two central flutes merging at the front face in a manner reminiscent of early Amati work, along with prominent outward-pointing cornets.
