Carl Mettus Weis
Violin maker
(1806 – 1872)
An amateur maker who studied law and became head of the Danish ministry of culture and church matters. He studied violin making with his friend Emil Hjorth.
His brother, Andreas, was also a maker and after their deaths many of their spare instrument parts were given to Emil Hjorth, who finished them. These are usually signed ‘C Weis fecit – E. Hjorth correxit’ and date from around 1880 onwards.
